Abstract
This Regulation aims to protect the environment in the tourism industry and to encourage and facilitate sustainable development of tourism by stipulating standards for the protection and conservation of the environment.
The Regulation stipulates that any activity that may cause damage or adversely affect the environment shall be carried out after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Such activities may include the dredging of lagoons and reclamation of land, construction of breakwaters, felling of trees, and import and export of living species. Applicants, in order to obtain permission, must submit details of the activity together with a site plan, and environmental impact assessment report to the Ministry.
The Regulation provides for: restrictions on protected species; restrictions for planting trees, using fertilizers and keeping living species; waste management resorts, vessels, marinas, etc.; storage of water in tourism resorts, vessels, etc.; sewage and waste water treatment; etc.
