Abstract
Regulations to control the management of slaughterhouses, to provide for ante mortem and post mortem inspection by appointed meat inspectors and to propose measures for the prevention of animal diseases and to provide for matters related to inspection of meat.
The 31 regulations are divided into 8 Parts: Preliminary (I); Management of slaughterhouses (II); Power to inspect (III); Seizure and condemnation (IV); Ante mortem inspection (V); Post mortem inspection (VI); Diseases (VII); Miscellaneous examinations (VIII).
Part II introduces general prohibitions affecting meat of "category A and B" slaughterhouses. An "A category slaughterhouse" is a slaughterhouse from which carcasses may be exported. Prohibitions concern adding of foreign substances to meat, introducing of diseased animals in slaughterhouses, etc. Inspectors are divided into categories "Meat Inspector category A" and "Meat Inspector category B". Part IV and V contain detail rules for the inspection of animals and meat. Regulation 23 specifies diseases that necessitate rejection of entire carcasses.
