Abstract
The purpose of this agreement is to provide a framework for the transboundary movement of hazardous wastes that are shipped from Malaysia to the United States for management.
Malaysia shall not allow a transboundary shipment to commence without a contract between the exporter and the intended facility in the United States, and if it believes that the hazardous waste will not be managed in an environmentally sound manner (art. 4). Article 5 deals with cooperative efforts of the two Parties. Malaysia shall have the duty to re-import its hazardous wastes if the transboundary movement cannot be completed (art. 6). The United States may require that any import of hazardous waste be covered by insurance as provided for in article 8.
