Abstract
These Regulations apply to solid waste transfer stations and landfills which discharge or release leachate.
It shall be prohibited for any new source of leachate discharge or release to carry out its activities without a written notification from the Director General. Owners of solid waste transfer stations and landfills shall strictly control noise, air, soil, surface and ground water pollution and monitor the components of the leachate discharged onto or into any soil, or into any inland waters.
The Regulations further provide for: acceptable conditions for discharge of leachate; methods of analysis of leachate; specification of points of discharge of leachate; leachate treatment systems; measures to follow if any spill, accidental discharge or leakage of any leachate occurs; obligations of owners of solid waste transfer stations or landfill to maintain records; licence fees; penalties; etc.

These Regulations repeal the Environmental Quality (Sewage and Industrial Effluents) Regulations, 1979 which have already been repealed by the Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations, 2009.
