Abstract
The Act is divided into the following Parts: Preliminary (I); The Authority (II); Divisions, Officers and Servants (III); Finance (IV); Other Powers of the Authority (V); General (VI).
The functions of the Authority shall be: (a) to promote and undertake economic and social development of Farmers' Organizations; (b) to register, control and supervise Farmers' Organizations; (c) to plan and undertake agricultural development in the so called "Farmers' Development Areas", established by notification of the Minister in the Official Gazette for the purposes of this Act; (d) to control and coordinate the performance of the activities for the achievement of the above-mentioned objectives.
Furthermore, the Act provides for the establishment of the Farmers' Advisory Council, whose functions shall be generally to advise the Minister on matters pertaining to the development of Farmers' Organizations.
Financial provisions concern the following: (a) creation of a fund to be administered and controlled by the Authority; (b) authorization of expenses and preparation of estimates; (c) accounts and audit; (d) power to borrow sums required by the Authority for the fulfilment of its obligations and duties; (e) power to make loans; (f) investment of the assets of the Authority; (g) compulsory acquisition of land, as the Authority may deem necessary for the purposes of this Act.
