Abstract
These Rules are enacted in accordance with the Fisheries Act 1985. The Rules shall apply to any person who carries on aquaculture activity in relation to inland fisheries in the aquaculture premises for commercial purposes in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Federal Territory of Labuan.
The Director General shall prepare and keep under continual review aquaculture development plan for inland fisheries designed to ensure optimum utilization of inland fishery resources. In order to set up any aquaculture premises, a permit shall be obtained. No person, including a permit holder, shall carry on any aquaculture activity without a licence. Every aquaculture premises shall be identified by a plate number allotted by the Director General. The Director General shall determine good aquaculture practice to ensure the quality, safety and healthy of the aquaculture production, fish and seed production, ensure the aquaculture premises is free from any fish disease, foster efficient and responsible aquaculture production and expansion, and ensure the environmental sustainability. A licensee shall comply with good aquaculture practice in carrying on the aquaculture activity. The Rules further make provisions for: discharge of treated effluent, usage of aquaculture chemical, genetically modified fish, exotic fish and fish species which is non-indigenous, biosecurity plan, fish health management, offences and penalties, etc.
