Food (Amendment) Regulations 2026

These Regulations amend the Food Regulations 1985 [P.U. (A) 437/1985] regarding food safety, quality standards, packaging, and processing procedures. Specifically, they introduce a definition for "cooking appliance" under ceramic ware provisions, establish a minimum total dissolved solids requirement and updated labeling rules for natural mineral water, and exempt water or steam intended for subsequent disinfection from minimum residual free chlorine limits. Additionally, the Regulations revise maximum permitted limits for lead and cadmium release in ceramic ware under the Thirteenth Schedule, as well as updated chemical, bacteriological, and radiological standards in the Twenty Fifth and Twenty Sixth Schedules.
