Sarawak Rivers Ordinance, 1993.

This Ordinance is enacted to provide for the control and regulation of traffic by water in ports and harbours or on rivers wholly within Sarawak and in the foreshores and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.
Part 2 provides for the establishment and composition of Sarawak Rivers Board. Section 5 and 12 stipulate the functions, powers and duties of the Board, including: (a) to plan and make recommendations to the Government for the development and improvement of the riverine transport system; (b) to control and regulate traffic by water in ports and harbours or on rivers and in the foreshores within the limits of Sarawak; (c) to take all appropriate measures to prevent or reduce the rate of erosion of the banks of rivers and for the protection and restoration thereof; (d) to regulate, control and guide any vessel through any barrage or shiplock; etc.
In order for a vessel to be used for hire or trade or carriage of passengers and goods upon any river, the vessel shall be registered in accordance with section 15, and shall have its name endorsed upon a valid permit issued under section 15.
