Abstract
This Strategic Plan for the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) outlines a five-year roadmap (2021–2025) for strengthening the department's capacity to deliver accurate and effective meteorological, climate, and geophysical services. By addressing operational challenges and leveraging technology, the Plan aims to improve disaster resilience, public welfare, and sustainable development.
The Vision is set as: To become a leading agency in meteorology, climate, and geophysics. The Mission is: To deliver efficient and effective meteorological, climate, and geophysical services for public welfare, safety, and sustainable development. The Plan is structured around five core strategic pillars: 1. Enhancing Weather Services: Improve the accuracy of weather forecasts to reduce disaster risks; Strengthen public awareness and responsiveness to extreme weather events. 2. Strengthening Aviation Meteorology Services: Provide accurate meteorological data for the safety and comfort of air travel; Enhance collaboration with international aviation bodies like ICAO. 3. Developing Earthquake and Tsunami Services: Advance monitoring systems to detect seismic and tsunami activities.; Enhance disaster management coordination with relevant agencies. 4.Promoting Climate Services: Offer precise climate data to support national prosperity; Address climate-related challenges through research and mitigation strategies. 5. Strengthening Organizational Capacity and Governance: Invest in training personnel to improve competency; Integrate cutting-edge technologies and adhere to international standards.
