Abstract
These Regulations, consisting of 14 articles, outline the rules for wildlife exhibitions, establishing that: (i) a permit is required to conduct a wildlife exhibition, with a special permit necessary for totally protected wildlife, and the exhibition operator must appoint a veterinary surgeon for the entire duration of the exhibition; (ii) permits are subject to specific fees based on their type; (iii) mobile wildlife exhibitions are limited to species listed in the First Schedule, and operators must ensure that animals are housed in adequately sized, well-ventilated, and secure enclosures, with exhibitions at any location restricted to 14 days unless otherwise approved by the Director General; (iv) permanent wildlife exhibitors, excluding those showcasing insects and arachnids, must provide enclosures that meet the specifications outlined in the Second Schedule, ensuring designs cater to the natural behaviors and basic needs of the animals; (v) exhibition operators are responsible for wildlife health care, which includes appointing a veterinary surgeon, providing an on-site veterinary clinic (with this requirement exempted for mobile exhibitions), tagging and recording births, and maintaining comprehensive health and dietary records, while also reporting any wildlife deaths due to suspected diseases; (vi) a quarantine area must be established for newly acquired wildlife to isolate them for preventive measures or disease treatment, remaining closed to the public, with the duration of quarantine determined by a veterinary surgeon; (vii) wildlife must be provided with uncontaminated food and water that fulfills their nutritional requirements and corresponds to their natural diet; (viii) vaccinations must be administered by a veterinary surgeon or under their supervision; (ix) euthanasia may only be performed by a veterinary surgeon and can be conducted if the veterinarian determines the animal is injured, suffers from an incurable disease, or requires termination for other reasons; and (x) penalties are stipulated for any violations of these regulations.
