Decree No. 51/2024: Approves the Regulation on the Environmental Inspection Activity.

This Decree approves the Regulation on Environmental Inspection Activity. This Regulation, consisting of 22 articles divided into four Chapters, aims to regulate the activity of monitoring environmental protection and quality standards at national level. In terms of Environmental Inspection, the Ministry that oversees the environmental sector is responsible for: a) carry out Environmental Inspection activities with a view to verifying compliance with the laws, rules and regulations relating to the environment throughout the national territory; b) draw up the necessary information for the sanctioning of transgressions of the rules in force on environmental issues; c) use the legal mechanisms at the Public Prosecutor's Office to order embargoes, destroy works, seize equipment or cancel activities that degrade the quality of the environment; and d) report to the Public Prosecutor's Office all offences against environmental values protected by law and liable to criminal prosecution.
