Decree No. 71/2018 approving the Regulation for the Management of Radioactive Waste, pursuant to Law No. 8/2017 of 21 July.

This Decree approves the Regulation for the Management of Radioactive Waste, pursuant to Law No. 8/2017 of 21 July. This Regulation, consisting of 47 articles divided into seven Chapter and one Annex, lays down rules for the safe management of radioactive waste for the protection of people, property and the environment against the exposure to ionizing radiation. This Regulation shall apply to the following matters: a) radioactive waste resulting from any related activities (including: discharge of effluents; management of waste containing radioactive materials; disused radioactive sources); b) decommissioning of nuclear facilities and activities. The Decree is divided as follows: Initial and Final Management of Radioactive Waste (Chap. II); Stages of Radioactive Waste Management (Chap. III); Construction and Operation of Management Facilities of Radioactive Waste (Chap. IV); Decommissioning of Facilities and Activities (Chap. V); Protection against Occupational Exposure (Chap. VI); Final and Transitional Provisions (Chap. VII). The Annex specifies Type of Infringements and Fines (The applicable fines must be paid within a maximum period of 15 working days).
