Abstract
This Ministerial Order approves the National Action Plan to Prevent, Deter, and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU). The Plan consists of 10 Sections specifying all the preventing measures to be carried out by the competent authorities in order to control fishing activities in waters under Mozambican jurisdiction. The implementation of the Policy and Strategy of the activities of Fisheries Monitoring, Control and Inspection requires the adoption of National Plan on IUU, that clearly establish the systematic and integrated approach to coordination and collaboration at national, regional and international cooperation as a key element in efforts to combat illegal fishing. As a first step, the National Action Plan (PNA-IUU) aims to acquire knowledge of the extent and impact of IUU fishing in Mozambique. Then, in light of the initiatives and measures already implemented to curb the incidence of IUU fishing and, based on the principles and measures set out in the International Action Plan (PIA-IUU), the objective is to formulate a set of additional measures necessary to fill the gaps in the existing system, with a view to minimizing the incidence of IUU fishing in Mozambique. The PNA-IUU was designed following the principles and provisions contained in the International Plan of Action PIA-IUU.
