Namibia’s First NDC – Second update.

This Namibia’s First NDC – Second update aligns with the Paris Agreement and UNFCCC decisions. It focuses on 2023-2030 and aims to contribute to the global stocktake. The country's target is set up as: Reduce emissions by 7.669 Mt CO₂e and increase removals by 4.233 Mt CO₂e, achieving a total mitigation potential of 11.902 Mt CO₂e by 2030. The Energy and AFOLU sectors will be the main contributors with 30% and 67% of the national mitigation potential in 2030. Adaptation measures are prioritized, focusing on water resources, agriculture, biodiversity, health, and coastal zones.
The identified co-benefits resulting from adaptation actions include: CO2 sequestration through the development of urban green corridors and agroforestry; Improving soil carbon through conservation agriculture combined with the use of compost and biochar; Carbon capture through enhanced vegetation during the establishment and restoration of one riparian buffer; Reduction of CH4 emissions through water recycling for reuse or recharging of aquifers; Establishment of firebreaks to reduce GHG emissions; Improving soil carbon in land restored through removal of encroaching bush for biodiversity conservation and food security. The document also prioritizes gender-responsive actions due to women’s disproportionate vulnerability.
