Abstract
The present Decree contains provisions regarding the compensation for animal welfare referred to in Article 70 of Regulation (EU) 2021/2115 establishing rules on support for strategic plans to be drawn up by Member States under the common agricultural policy (CAP Strategic Plans) and financed by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) and by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). The compensation for animal welfare is part of Finland's strategic plan for the Common Agricultural Policy 2023 2027, and it may be granted and paid during the period the strategic plan is in effect within the framework of the funds allocated in the land budget. On a farm with cattle, the following measures can be chosen by the farmer: 1) Welfare plan for cattle; 2) Sick, treatment, and calving boxes for cattle; 3) Promotion of conditions under which calves are kept; and 4) Promotion of conditions under which male cattle are kept. On a farm with sheep and goats, the following measures can be chosen: 1) Welfare plan for sheep and goats; and 2) Promotion of conditions under which sheep and goats are kept. The farmer can choose species-specific measures annually in connection with the application for compensation for animal welfare and can commit to implementing measures for one or more animal species. Article 16 contains a table with the amounts for compensation per unit of eligible animals.
