Abstract
This Act amends the Fisheries Act, 1972: in provisions concerning, among other things, penalties, fishing licences and parliamentary scrutiny of Orders and Regulations made under this Act; and by providing for the creation of the Commercial Fisheries Council.
A distinction is made between a commercial fishing licence and a recreational fishing licence. The Commercial Fisheries Council shall be responsible for: (a) the issuing of commercial fishing licences; and (b) assessing eligibility for benefits for fishermen in respect of fishing vessels, fishing equipment and related matters.
