Abstract
These Rules are made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 76 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927. They apply to the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. They prohibit any person from establishing or maintaining a depot unless registered under these Rules. The procedure to obtain such a permit is laid down. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests may exempt any Government Department, Public Sector Undertaking or any Co-operative Society from the operation of these Rules. The Rules also lay down the conditions to be fulfilled by an owner of any depot including paying security deposit, restricting forest produce that is not checked in transit or which do not bear valid property mark and other such conditions as mentioned therein. The contravention of any of the provisions of these Rules by the owner of the depot shall lead to cancellation of the registration and forfeiture of security deposit. Every person having a registered depot shall register their sale hammer mark in the office of the Forest Division in which the depot is situated.
