Order No. 8 on Crab-fishing (Chionoecetes opilio).

The Order sets rules regarding fishing for crab (Chionoecetes opilio) in Greenland's fishing territory which is permissible only by license issued by the Directorate of Fisheries and Hunting, based on catch quota. Licenses are time-limited. If the fish purchasing capacity is insufficient in relation to the expected quantity of landed crabs, the Directorate may decide to temporarily suspend issuance of commercial license to those not living in an area within the managed fishing area.
Commercial crab-fishing in West Greenland north of 64 ° 15N is only allowed between 1 January and 31 March. Vessels of 20 BRT/37 GT or more must not engage in commercial crab-fishing between 1 April and 30 September.
Commercial crab-fishing must be suspended if more than 20% of the catch must be discarded due to health issues and soft-shelled crabs are unsuitable for commerce. Minimum permitted size of crabs must be 10 cm. and must be male. Crabs affected with BCD (Bitter Crab Disease) must be brought to land for registration. Non-commercial crab-fishing is permitted to Danish citizens with residence in Greenland.
