Abstract
This Act amends the Protected Species Act 2003 by amending sections 2, 4, 5 and 9 in relation with definitions, the declaration of protected species by the Minister and offences and by inserting new sections 5A and 8A and a Schedule on levels of protection for protected species. Section 5A stipulates that when declaring a species to be a protected species under section 5, the Minister shall allocate to that protected species a level of protection as set out in the Schedule. Section 8A allows the Minister to issue a permit on such terms and conditions as (s)he may determine, authorizing the holder of the permit to engage in any activity that would otherwise be prohibited by the Act for the purpose outlined in that section.
