Abstract
This Regulation of the Government of Greenland lays down rules on the use of plastic carrier bags and single-use plastic products. It defines key terms such as “plastic,” “plastic carrier bags,” “very light plastic carrier bags,” “single-use plastic products,” “drinking cups,” and “oxo-degradable plastics.” The regulation sets rules on the distribution of plastic bags: plastic carrier bags with a thickness of 30 micrometers or more may not be given away for free at points of sale, while thinner bags under 30 micrometers cannot be given away free or sold at all, with some exceptions for hygiene and food waste prevention. It also restricts or prohibits specific single-use plastics, aligning with broader environmental goals to reduce plastic waste. Overall, the regulation establishes a legal framework for limiting free distribution and use of certain plastic bags and disposable plastic products in Greenland to protect the environment.
