Regulation No. 55 on mercury.
Type of law
Regulation
Abstract
This Regulation of the Government of Greenland establishes rules on the sale, use, import, export, and discharge of mercury, mercury compounds, and mercury-added products. It generally prohibits their trade, manufacture, and use in production processes, as well as the use of dental amalgam and environmental release. Certain exceptions are allowed for essential defense and civil protection equipment, research and calibration instruments, specific lighting and measuring devices without mercury-free alternatives, and vaccines containing thiomersal. Municipalities are responsible for supervision and enforcement, while appeals follow environmental protection law procedures. Violations may result in fines.
