Agricultural Support Project Law, Chapter 5 of 1994.

This Law, divided into five parts and consisting of 37 sections, concerns establishment, composition and functions of the agricultural support project. The Law defines the following relevant terms: agriculture, including: field crops production, horticulture, forestry and the use of land for the purposes of husbandry keeping, breeding and processing of livestock, poultry, fishing and primary storage, handling and marketing of any product of horticulture, veterinary services and extension; Benue State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority; Community Development Fund; International Fund for Agricultural Development; project agreement; participating institutions; Subsidiary Agreement. Matters covered by this Law include: financial resources of the project; structure and scope of the project and implementation institutions. The project aims at: ensuring that poor farmers and particularly women are assisted to increase their agricultural production; ensuring the capability of a commercial bank to provide financial services to a poor rural population; the provision of portable drinking water; strengthening agricultural development through existing new approach to extension service towards the need of poor farmers; providing credit through public commercial Banks to farmer groups or associations; increasing community development through the formation of community associations and farmers groups.
