Abstract
This Act makes provision for measures to prevent the spreading of diseases affecting animals in Nigeria. It places restrictions on the importation of animals, hatching eggs, poultry, any vaccine serum, toxin, antitoxin, antibody and antigen used in veterinary practice, and infectious agents. It also requires a permit for the exportation of any animal, hatchery eggs or poultry and requires animal diseases to be notified.
Other measures include disposal of diseased animals, control on the trade in animals, control on transportation of animals and control on hatcheries and poultry farms. The Act also defines regulation-making powers of the Minister and Director of the Federal Livestock Department or the Chief Veterinary Officer. (completed by 12 Schedules)
