The Bauchi State Urban Water Sector no. 1 of 2014.

This Act, divided into three Parts, provides for the development of the urban water sector in the State of Bauchi. The Act concerns: the establishment of the State urban water and sewerage Corporation, and the appointment of its members and the definition of its functions including: providing safe, adequate and affordable water supply services, and sewage and wastewater management services to the inhabitants of the defined service areas; proposing urban water tariffs and charges; monitoring the implementation of the State water supply and sanitation Policy; developing new water supply infrastructure, with potable water for domestic consumption of the public, and water for commercial, industrial, scientific and other uses; organising research and training with respect to water supply and sewerage services; exploiting water resources in the interests of the community; providing data on water supply, sanitation, and hygiene; promoting the rational use of water resources and potable water; promoting the conclusion of any commitments, agreements, joint ventures, Public-Private Partnership agreements concerning the distribution, supply or sale of water and sewerage management services.
The Act also concerns: establishment of the Performance Contract, Monitoring and Review Committee; financial provisions and application of funds and resources of the Corporation; prohibition of sale of water supplied by the Corporation; limitation of suits against the Corporation; absence of liability of the Corporation for any malfunctioning installation works; personal immunity of members of the Corporation; provisions relating to the acquisition of land; offences and penalties; establishment of a Special Court for the Corporation; offences related to illegal construction of waterworks; offences related to water pollution.
