Environmental Transformation Commission Law no. 3 of 2008

This Law provides for establishing the Environmental Transformation Commission and its governing board. The Law defines the following powers of the Commission: implementing green initiatives in the State; encouraging planting of trees; providing sustainable sanitation services and environmental protection; designing, developing and maintaining a sustainable waste management system; implementing policies for modern technology in refuse collection, treatment and disposal; monitoring and supervising the activities of contractors engaged by the Commission for sanitation duties; implementing a master plan for managing solid waste in the State; powers to charge sanitation and environmental fees. Further matters covered by this Law include: dumping of waste; liabilities and prosecution of offenders; inspection of buildings; prohibition of sale of prohibited food and any other goods for consumption; establishment of an environmental and sanitation court and definition of its powers; financial provisions and funds of the Commission.
