Forestry Law, Chapter 53 of 1938.

This Law, divided into nine parts and consisting of 62 sections, provides for preservation and control of forests and for related matters. The Law defines the following relevant terms: cattle; communal forestry area; forestry officer; forest produce, including: timber, firewood, charcoal, rubber, latex, wood oil, gum, resin, natural varnish, tanning extracts, tanning barks, fruits, fibres, bark and lac; trees and all their parts; plants, including climbers and grasses; forestry property; forest reserve; public land; protected forest; protected tree. The Law concerns the following matters: appointment of forestry officers; special provisions regarding government forest reserves and government protected forests; intention to create a reserve and appointment of reserve settlement officer; inquiry and judicial powers of reserve settlement officers; orders constituting a forest reserve; owners' rights extinguished or modified by Commissioner; further provisions affecting rights; special provisions regarding local government and constitution of local government forest reserves; declaration of lands as communal forestry areas; power to entry on lands and to make boundaries; fees and royalties; offences and prohibited acts in forest reserves.
