Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency Law, no. 4 of 1998.

This Law provides for establishing the Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency, whose functions are the following: formulating, implementing and reviewing environmental policy in the State; reviewing environmental projects; coordinating urban and regional planning processes throughout the State, in cooperation with other public and private authorities and agencies; adopting and executing all existing bilateral and multilateral agreements and obligations involving environmental matters; advising the State government on scientific and technological activities and developments relating to the environment; providing for waste collection, transportation and disposal in conjunction with governmental agencies; creating consultative committees with the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this Law; stimulating the public interest on environment by dissemination of information, organisation of lectures and seminars on environmental education; conducting training programmes for industrial, commercial and public institution. Further matters covered by this Law include: composition of committees and specification of their functions, including powers of inspection for preventing the release of substances hazardous to the environment and the ecosystem; funds of the Agency and its application.
