Inland Fisheries Law, Chapter 103 of 1999

This Law concerns the management of fisheries within the inland waters of Abia State. The Law defines the following terms and concepts: closed season; fish, including all living aquatic animals, vertebrate and invertebrate other than plants, which are harvestable for food and other economic purposes; fishing craft; fishing gear; fish pond; fish ladder; fishing licence; poaching; spawning ground. Matters covered by this Law include: licensing of fishing craft and application for a licence; restriction on the use of fishing gears, nets and fishing methods; prohibition on the use of noxious chemicals on fish or other substances that may contaminate fish products; import and export of fish products; offences and penalties; closed areas and seasons; enforcement measures.
