Kwara Geographic Information Service Law, 2020.

This Law, divided into six parts, establishes the Kwara Geographic Information Service, whose objectives are to administer and manage land and building matters in the State including all issues relating to title, registration, searches, physical planning and urban development and such other responsibilities as may be determined by the Governor. The Law specifies the following functions of the Service: preparing physical planning plans and regulations; processing and issuing all development permits in the State; verifying applications for issuance of rights of occupancy for land and other property rights; developing and maintaining a database of all land within the State; implementing and sustaining best practices for·land ownership and title certification; maintaining database of all development permit applications; permitting access to existing data on land for the purpose of conducting research; providing technical assistance to all Government Ministries and Agencies on matters relating to physical planning, urban regeneration and development control; enforcing building control regulations; developing and maintaining a geospatial information system or such appropriate system and structures In the State for research and land management. The Law also details: powers of the Service; establishment and composition of the governing board; functions of the board; management and staff of the Service; acquisition of land and compensation; financial provisions and funds of the Service; right to access to information; definition of relevant terms.
