Abstract
These Regulations, implementing sections 335 (1) and (3) of section 434 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2007, apply to: Nigerian ships wherever they may be and other ships while they are in Nigeria. The Regulations concern prevention of pollution caused by harmful substances in packaged form. The Regulations provide for the following matters: transport and carriage of harmful substances; adequacy of packaging of harmful substances carried by sea, in order to minimise any hazard to the marine environment; marking and labelling of packages; documents relating to the carriage of harmful substances; stowage of harmful substances; compliance with the procedures specified in the MARPOL Convention; penalties.
