Abstract
These Regulations, implementing sections 335 (1) and (3) of section 434 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2007, apply to: Nigerian ships wherever they may be and to other ships while they are in Nigeria. The Regulations concern the following matters: sewage systems and standard discharge connections; equipment of ships with specific sewage systems; prohibition of discharge of sewage into the sea; exceptions to discharge of sewage; survey requirements; issuance of appropriate certification; duty to ensure compliance with the provisions of these Regulations and the applicable requirements of Annex IV of MARPOL 73/78 Regulations; inspection, detention and other measures in respect of ships; prohibition on proceeding to sea without appropriate certificate; penalties.
