Abstract
This Policy expresses the Nigeria government's efforts to provide efficient cooking energy services, taking into consideration the expansion of the role of gas in national development on the one side, and the country's commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change, on the other, as cooking energy is one of the key sources of emissions of greenhouse gases. The main goal of the Policy is to achieve universal access to clean cooking energy solutions for households and institutions by 2030, in order to improve health, create jobs, build livelihoods, protect the environment, achieve the sustainable development goals, and help families, institutions and businesses save time and money through the promotion of clean cooking solutions. The Policy specifies the following measures: improving investments in the clean cooking sector; strengthening the liquefied petroleum gas supply in the domestic market; increasing development of biogas to reach at least 3% of Nigerian homes and institutions by 2030; enhancing a thriving biofuels industry and increase the share of biofuels in the overall cooking energy mix to 5% by 2030; increasing the share of briquettes in the overall cooking fuel mix to 5% by 2030; establishing a fuel efficient cookstoves industry; improving modern energy cooking services; ensuring adequate gender mainstreaming in the access to clean cooking services.
