Order no. NERC/NERC/182/2019 on the mandatory dispatch of hydro power plants in the Nigerian electricity supply industry.

This Order, made by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in compliance with the provisions of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, provides for classifying the hydropower plants and designating the hydropower plants of the country as “must-run”, and for according them high priority in the dispatch of grid connected power plants. The licensed System Operator is required to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Order and to report any eventual deviation. This Order aims at: creating, promoting and preserving efficient industry and market structures, and at ensuring the optimal utilisation of resources for the provision of electricity services, and for establishing reliability and quality standards in the supply of electricity.
