Abstract
These Regulations, made under section 14 of the Sea Fisheries Act, provide rules relative to quality of fish and hygienic conditions for the transportation, handling on board and on land, storage and packing of fish. They also concern labelling and smoking or other ways of preservation of fish destined for exportation or to be placed on the market in Nigeria. No person or corporate body shall import or export fish or fishery products without satisfying all the requirements contained in these Regulations or shall use a vessel for transportation of fish unless the vessel displays a certificate that has been issued by Fish Inspection certifying that the vessel meets the requirements of Schedule I of these Regulations. The Regulations also provide for inspection and quality control and production monitoring by the Fish Inspection and Quality Assurance Branch of the Federal Department of Fisheries and prohibit the importation and exportation of certain (toxic) fish.
