Wild Animals Law, Chapter 174, no. 8 of 1965.

This Law provides for the control, conservation and management of wild animals in Abia State and for all the connected matters. The Law defines the following terms: animal; wild animal; hunting. The Law concerns the following matters: appointment of officers and of advisory committee; classification of prohibited animals, specially protected animals and protected animals; licensing to hunt and restrictions; respect of traditional hunting rights; offences and penalties for hunting without permission; killing animals in self-defence; creation of game reserves, game sanctuaries and close seasons, and relating powers of the Committee; use restrictions and rights on land that has been constituted as a game reserve; prohibited acts in game reserves; restriction on methods of hunting and destroying wild animals and fish; possession and traffic in trophies; specific measures to ensure birds' eggs protection; general penalties.
