Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to ensure trust in the trade of articles made of precious metals and contribute to the efficient use of society's resources and the protection of public interests. The Act applies to the manufacture, marketing and sale of goods made of precious metal and goods that are composed of precious metal and other material.
The Act states that goods can only be marketed or traded as gold, silver or platinum when they in each part contain at least 375 thousandths of gold, 800 thousandths of silver or 850 thousandths of platinum, respectively. Moreover, goods marketed or traded as precious metal shall have a hallmark indicating their standard. The Norwegian Metrology Service shall be the authority responsible for supervising this Act.
