Abstract
This Decree applies to owners of fishing vessels which have obtained purse seining licences in the sense of the Decree No. 1 of 1979 relative to access to fishing with purse seining gear. Chapter II concerns unit quotas, whereas Chapter III concerns shipowner quotas. Unit quotas for purse seine fleets are designed to contribute and adjust quota resources and operation range of single vessels. Shipowner quotas aim at a more cost-effective fishing. Yearly quotas for fishing for herring, mackerel, capelin, and sprat may be divided into unit quotas for vessels participating since 1995 in accordance with article 3. Article 4 concerns cooperation between ship owners, whereas articles 5 and 6 establish which ship owners are eligible for the allocation of unit quotas. (13 articles)
