Regulation on animal health conditions for the import and export of live animals, semen, eggs and embryos (Regulation on trade in animals).

This Regulation provides with respect to a wide variety of matters regarding the importation of live animals, seed, and embryos from states that are member of the EEA and from third countries. It carries into effect in Norway Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 139/2013 2013 laying down animal health conditions for imports of certain birds into the Union and the quarantine conditions. The purpose of the Regulation is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in connection with the import and export of live animals, semen, eggs and embryos. The text of the regulation consists of 27 sections divided into 5 Chapters: Scope, application sphere and definitions (I); International trade in live animals between Norway and other EEA states (II); Import and export of live animals, semen, eggs and embryos between approved bodies, institutes and stations in Norway and other EEA states (III); Prohibition on imports of live animals from third countries (IV); Import of certain birds from third countries (VI); Imports of dogs, cats and ferrets from third countries (VI); Administrative provisions (VII). The Regulation is completed by various Annexes listing notifiable diseases and diseases for which additional guarantees can be given, laying down criteria for the approval of institutions, etc. and containing model health certificates.
Specific import conditions are specified for bees, ungulates, poultry and other birds, and some other animals that may carry rabies. Embryos and semen shall be accompanied by a health certificate. Sometimes quarantine may imposed on imported animals
