Abstract
The objective of the present Regulation is is to ensure good welfare and respect for animals exhibited in front of an audience. It applies to the keeping and use of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods in circuses, zoos, and in temporary exhibitions. The animals listed in Annex 1 can be exhibited in zoos and at temporary exhibitions without specific permission, notwithstanding the reporting obligations of chapter 3. Zoos can apply to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority for permission/authorization to exhibit species other than those listed in Annex 1. Circuses that intend to exhibit animals must apply for and obtain permission from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. Other provisions lay down rules concerning the training of animals and carrying out of exhibitions; living environment, supervision and care; requirements on the place where animals are kept; and animal health in zoos.
The Regulation consists of 20 articles divided into the following chapters: 1. Introductory provisions; 2. General provisions; 3. Reporting and documentation; 4. Special provisions concerning zoos; 5. Final provisions.
