Abstract
This Regulation defines the purpose, leadership structure, responsibilities, and operational framework of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. It establishes that the institute is responsible for public meteorological services, including weather and ocean monitoring, forecasting, and climate assessments, serving both civil and military needs. Governed by a board of seven members appointed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the institute is led by a director appointed for a six-year term. The director manages daily operations and represents Norway in the World Meteorological Organization. The institute is a government agency with special authorizations allowing administrative and financial flexibility, including exemptions from certain state budgeting rules.
