Abstract
This Regulation aims to protect Svalbard’s natural environment and cultural heritage from pollution and hazardous substances by regulating emissions, waste handling, and service fees. It prohibits the release of harmful environmental toxins and requires proper collection, sorting, and disposal of household and industrial waste, including strict rules for the handling and documentation of hazardous waste. The regulation establishes mandatory waste collection and sewage services within designated planning areas and sets cost-based fees for these services. The Governor of Svalbard oversees enforcement, and exemptions may be granted in special cases. Violations can result in fines, cleanup orders, or imprisonment.
