Abstract
This Royal Decree establishes the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (Olje- og energidepartementet). The new ministry assumes responsibility for various laws and regulatory powers previously held by the Ministry of Industry, particularly those related to watercourse regulation, electricity supply, petroleum activities, and nuclear oversight. The Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts is simultaneously renamed the Ministry of Industry. The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy also takes over several royal decrees, advisory councils, and committees, as well as Norway’s participation in Nordic cooperation agreements such as the one on reactor safety (NARS). The purpose of its establishment is to consolidate and strengthen the administration of Norway’s energy and petroleum resources.
