Abstract
This policy aims to fulfil the need for a concrete policy to guide agricultural commercialization and to give sustainable momentum to industrialisation by modernising agricultural businesses. The past efforts and present status are described. The policy highlights the issues and challenges including lack of knowledge for entrepreneurs and farmers, fragmented agricultural lands, lack of appropriate policies, access to public utilities, subsistence agriculture and low farmer ownership of land. The vision, mission, goal and objectives of the policy are laid down. The following strategies are laid down in the policy: 1. Increasing productivity through agricultural mechanization; 2. Expanding access to machinery and equipment; 3. Promoting women and environment friendly agricultural machinery; and 4. Developing institutional structure to promote mechanization and regulate, monitor and promote agricultural machinery.
