Abstract
This Act provides for rights, interests and benefits of labourers; the rights and duties of labourers and employers; and prohibits labour exploitation. Chapter 2 prohibits forced labour, child labour and discrimination on the grounds of religion, colour, sex, caste, tribe, origin, language, ideological conviction. Chapter 3 defines the various types of employment and requires an employment contract for an employer to employ any person. Chapter 6 contains restrictions on employment of foreigners. The Act makes provisions in respect of working hours, remuneration, leave, provident fund, and insurance for labour.
Chapter 12 lays down provisions relating to occupation safety and health. Chapter 13 contains provisions in respect of labourers in specific service or industry such as tea-estates, transport, tourism and seasonal enterprises. Chapter 14 lays down the acts that are deemed to be unfair labour practices. Chapter 16 forms a Central Labour Advisory Council for giving advice on labour matters to the government of Nepal. Chapter 18 and 19 provide for settlement of labour disputes. Chapter 20 contains provisions for labour conduct and punishment. Chapter 21 deals with termination of employment and chapter 22 establishes the labour court.
