Abstract
This Act provides for arrangements relating to National Women Commission (Commission) established under Article 252 of the Constitution, for protection and promotion of the rights and interests of women. Chapter 1 contains the short title, commencement and definitions. Chapter 2 lays down the powers, functions and duties of the Commission, in addition to those mentioned in Article 253 of the Constitution. Chapter 3 provides for filing of complaints by the victim or anyone on behalf of the victim in case of violence against women or victimization through social malpractices or restriction in use of women's rights or deprivation in use of women's rights by any person or institution. It contains the procedure for investigation, implementation of orders and reconciliation. Chapter 4 and 5 make provisions in respect of operation and governance of the Commission.
