Abstract
This Nepal’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) under the Paris Agreement sets ambitious climate goals for 2025–2035, aiming to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 17.12% by 2030 and 26.79% by 2035 compared to business-as-usual levels. The NDC targets renewable energy expansion to 28,500 MW by 2035, electrification of cooking and transport, improved industrial efficiency, and sustainable waste management. Agriculture and forestry measures include maintaining 46% forest cover, promoting agroforestry, and installing improved cattle sheds. Around 96–97% of reductions are conditional on international finance, technology transfer, and capacity building.
Adaptation priorities focus on agriculture, water resources, forests, health, and disaster risk reduction. Actions include climate-resilient farms, expanded irrigation, wetland conservation, early warning systems, and resilient WASH services. Nepal emphasizes gender equality, social inclusion, and just transition, while addressing loss and damage through global support. The country aspires to achieve net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2045, aligning climate action with sustainable development goals.
