Abstract
This Plan provides for the conservation of snow leopards in Nepal. Chapter 1 contains the context and scope of the Plan. It discusses the background, current population and status and reviews the implementation of initiatives undertaken so far. The Plan describes the policy and legislation efforts, and institutional development in respect of snow leopard conservation. It lays down the learnings and identifies the opportunities and challenges.
Chapter 2 provides for the goal of the plan i.e. maintaining viable populations in each of the three snow leopard landscapes in Nepal. It lays down five objectives: 1. Enhancing Knowledge on Snow Leopard’s Ecology, their Prey and Habitats through Research and Monitoring; 2. Improving Habitats and Corridors; 3. Mitigating Human-Snow Leopard Conflict through Community Engagement; 4. Reducing Wildlife Crime on Snow Leopard and their Prey through Effective Law Enforcement; and 5. Strengthening Transboundary, Regional and International Cooperation and Support. Each objectives further lays down the rationale, targeted output and actions.
