Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the Water Supply Management Board to make water supply and sanitation services regular, well managed and easily available in municipal areas.
The Act defines the Board’s composition and its powers and functions which include: prevent the misuse of potable water and prevent its pollution; carry out research on the sources, distribution of potable water and sanitation; and formulate long term policies on water supply or sanitation services.
The Board shall also have powers to: issue licences for the operation of water and sanitation services and receive licence fees, lease payments, government transfers and donor funding.
The Act further provides for: establishment of the Kathmandu Valley Water Management Board to operate water supply services and sanitation services in the municipal areas within the Kathmandu Valley; penalties; fund and audit of the Board; etc.
