Abstract
The regulation aim to reduce plastic pollution and promote environmentally sustainable practices. The regulation prohibits the importation, manufacture, sale, and distribution of single use plastic shopping bags made from high- or low-density polyethylene, with violations punishable by fines up to $10,000 or imprisonment for up to six months. Definitions within the regulation clearly distinguish between acceptable and prohibited types of plastic bags. The regulation permits the use of biodegradable, degradable, and reusable bags, and allows for the seizure and proper disposal of non-compliant bags by authorized officers. The Secretary is tasked with determining the appropriate method of disposal for seized plastic bags. The text consists of 7 Articles.
