Abstract
This Act establishes the Port Authority of Nauru as a body corporate and makes provision with respect to its functions, powers and operation. In addition, the Act provides rules relative to various matters affecting the functioning or protection of ports including administration of ports, pilotage, the handling of dangerous goods and prevention of pollution.
The functions of the Authority are to establish, improve, maintain, operate and manage ports, designated as such under this Act by the Minister. Every person who pollutes port waters with a harmful substance commits an offence against this Act. The Authority may require dangerous goods to be handled in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
